As we turn over into 2016, AEON head honcho Alex Niggemann takes the reins for AEON’s second release in the New Year... and what an EP it is. As a DJ, producer and label boss, Alex’s production focuses on the more soulful and wistful side of Techno. With two solid original tracks and a very strong remix from Mathew Jonson’s familiar project Midnight Operator, this release is another in the line of high quality techno AEON has become synonymous of.
Starting off with ‘Angular’, the A-side, a rising feeling of suspense progressively builds into a melodic trance. Layers seamlessly blend together, lead by an array of arpeggio-ed synthesisers. All of this is beautifully interlinked with stripped back, subtle drum patterns..
‘Convection’ brings a slightly more percussive based overlay of sound design. Layers of hats and drone like sounds build slowly until an uplifting breakdown, familiar in Alex’s productions, cuts through the track. On remix duties, Mathew Jonson’s alias Midnight Operator (in conjunction with his brother Nathan) brings a fresh approach to ‘Angular’. A psychedelic introduction builds up to a climax, before dropping right down into a very unique stripped back break beat.
